Between Land and Sea

“You only need a one good wave and you’re hooked.” Between Land and Sea is a peek to the surf scene of Western Ireland, to the community by the shore.

Between Land and Sea is a documentary about a year in a sleepy small town on the Atlantic coast. The ocean offers livelihood to locals. They have a lifelong relationship with the waves. The best surfers in the world flock to beautiful Lanich in search of the ultimate surf experience.

At the start of the season, the whole town becomes alive. The empty silence is filled with cars and laughter and stores selling surfing gear. But as weather is unstable, the ocean, life and business are unpredictable. And as the youngsters who once lived for the waves grow up, they start to re-estimate their priorities. They establish families and wonder how many waves they still have in them.

Between Land and Sea is a visual depiction of dreams and compromises. Together with the wonderful soundtrack it is an ode and eulogy to the waves.
