Festival Programme Announced – Ticket Sales Are On

DocPoint – Helsinki Documentary Film Festival has announced the festival programme and begun the ticket sales. The programme is watchable online from 31 January to 6 February 2022. The opening event is held in Kansalaistori Square in Helsinki city centre on 29 January. Event includes free open-air screening of Susanna Helke’s latest film Ruthless Times – Songs of Care.

Finland’s biggest documentary film festival DocPoint is organized as a nationwide online festival. All the films are watchable throughout Finland from 31st of January to 6th of February 2022. The spectator chooses when to watch the purchased film during this time frame. The ticket sales for the festival have begun on DocPoint’s online platform.

Festival’s programme consists of 63 films in total, 52 of which are feature films. The National Programme includes thirteen long-waited documentary premieres. The International Programme includes films like ASCENSION, FAYA DAYI, PRESIDENT and WRITING WITH FIRE, which are competing for Academy Award for Best Documentary.

All Finnish and International films are Finnish premieres. Most of the films won’t be distributed in Finland anywhere else but in DocPoint. In addition, the programme includes a retrospective of academic Pirjo Honkasalo, which includes four masterful documentary films.

The best International documentary film and the best Finnish documentary film will be awarded in DocPoint’s two competitions. Festival’s artistic director Kati Juurus presents the films of National Competition in her article on DocPoint’s website.

“It is impressive how wonderful films have been made even during the pandemic around the world and in Finland. The whole programme has been built prioritizing quality and cinematics, emphasizing current themes” Juurus explains.

Juurus has worked as Artistic Director at the festival for three years. This year’s festival is Juurus’ last in the position.

”Every year I have tried highlight the diversity of documentary field and bring out powerful directors outside of Europe and North America. This year most of the films in International Competition have a non-white director.”

DocPoint’s opening event will be held in Kansalaistori Square in Helsinki city centre on Saturday 29th of January starting from 5:00 pm. There will be a free outdoor screening of Susanne Helke‘s new film RUTHLESS TIMES – SONGS OF CARE. In the darkly humorous film, women working in public care sing songs about their everyday experiences, absurd and often miserable. The music is composed by the famous musician Anna-Mari Kähärä. The film was produced by Road Movies Oy.

The director Susanna Helke will be present to talk about the film. The event is open for everyone.

The audience members are asked to attend the event only if they are healthy and to maintain safe distances to other audience members. Masks and good hand hygiene are recommended.

“It is great that we are able to have our opening event in fresh open-air. And especially great is that our opening film is so topical and uniquely made documentary musical! The film combines a current topic, important issue, dark humor and wonderful singing scenes. I am looking forward to the film related discussion!” says DocPoint’s executive director Tapio Riihimäki.
