Maria Fredriksson is a director originating from Sweden, who studied film directing in the New York Film Academy and completed her MA in Performing Arts and Media at the Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts. She is a founding member of the production company Ballad Film, focused on documentaries.
Fredriksson has made several short films, which have toured international film festivals like Hot Docs, Visions du Réel, and Sheffield DocFest. Her first feature-length documentary The Gullspång Miracle, completed last year, is a part of DocPoint’s programme. In the shocking and awe-inspiring documentary, Norwegian sisters receive a divine sign, which leads them to buy and apartment and pushes them toward a mystery, which even the best screenwriter could not come up with. The film is nominated in categories including Best Picture and Best Documentary in the the Swedish Film Institute’s Guldbagge Awards.
