Catarina Mourão is a film director and the founder of AporDOC, the Portuguese Documentary Association. In 2000 Mourão also founded Laranja Azul, a production company focusing on creative documentary filmmaking with Catarina Alves Costa. In her career she has directed several award-winning films and studied Law, Music and Film in Bristol and Edinburgh and has a PhD in Film. Mourão focuses her films and research mainly on creative documentary, realism, memory and archives. Currently, she teaches film in the MA of Arts and Multimedia at Lisbon’s Fine Art School.
Mourão’s film Astrakan79 is in the International Competiton on DocPoint. This pensive documentary follows the revelation of a long-held secret, as a father tells his son the hushed story of his transformative exchange year in the Soviet Union in the 1970s.
