Danish director Camilla Nielsson (b. 1977) has explored Zimbabwe’s political climate in several documentaries. Her previous documentary Democrats (2014) dealt with the creation of Zimbabwe’s new constitution. Nielsson returns to Zimbabwe with her newest documentary President, which is about the country’s first free presidential elections. The presidential candidates are young and progressive Nelson Chamisa and conservative Emmerson Mnangagwa. The country’s future will be determined by these elections, and the situation tests both the cabinet and the opposition. President competes in DocPoint’s International Competition. The film has been shortlisted for the 2022 Best Documentary Feature Oscar.
Camilla Nielsson will answer questions from the DocPoint audience in a live Masterclass event in Zoom on Saturday, Feb 2 at 14:00.
