Presenting its Nordic premiere at DocPoint, and taking part in the International Competition series is Purple Sea, directed by the Syrian duo Amel Alzakout (1988) and Khaled Abdulwahed (1975). When Alzakout, alongside 300 other refugees, was caught in the choppy waters on her route to Europe, Alzakout’s camera captured the entire terrifying ordeal. Purple Sea is an unforgettable, experimental piece of cinematic art. Amel Alzakout currently resides in Leipzig as an artist and filmmaker, having studied journalism between 2010-2013 at Egypt’s Cairo university. Purple Sea is her directorial debut.
