Agniia Galdanova is a film director from Saint Petersburg. Her passion for documentaries was lit up in 2016 when she met the director Marina Razbezhkinan who later became her teacher when Galdanova studied film in Moscow.
Galdanova’s first feature documentary Queendom is nominated in DocPoint’s International Competition this year. In the film a fearless queer activist from Siperia protests on the streets of Moscow by creating different drag creatures and dressing in otherworldly costumes. Queendom, which explores the intertwining of art and activism and the harrowing situation of the LGBTQ+ community in Russia, has earned acclaim at several international film festivals and it for example won the Next:Wave Award at CPH:DOX.
Agniia Galdanova has unfortunately had to cancel her visit to the festival due to the air traffic strike.
