DocPoint FINEST Market Opens in January 2022

New Finnish and Estonian documentaries will find wider international audiences.

DocPoint expands its operations and opens the DocPoint FINEST Market together with its sister festival DocPoint Tallinn. As the name implies, DocPoint FINEST Market offers a platform for international professionals to watch and buy the best new Finnish and Estonian films, grouped under the DocPoint brand.

 The two-week DocPoint FINEST Market will open during DocPoint Festival in January next year. Its goal is to improve the international visibility of Finnish and Estonian documentaries as well as develop new opportunities to find new audiences.

– International competition in the region is fierce and film industry structures are undergoing a transformation. DocPoint wants to contribute to the success of Finnish and Estonian film by offering curated and high-quality Finnish-Estonian documentary films to international documentary makers and buyers’, says Kati Juurus, Artistic Director of DocPoint – Helsinki Documentary Film Festival.

Domestic film submissions for DocPoint Festival open in August 2022, submitted films will at the same time be considered to take part in the DocPoint FINEST Market.

 DocPoint – Helsinki Documentary Film Festival brings the best Finnish and international documentary films to cinemas again 31.1. – 6.2.2022. The festival will also show part of its program online.

Films that will premiere in the Finnish competition as well as films in the student series will automatically participate in the DocPoint FINEST market, together with other Finnish and Estonian films out of competition. The market will also offer new Finnish films that have already premiered in Finland elsewhere, as well as co-productions. Moreover, there will also be a section of work-in-progress screenings. The filmmakers behind these projects will present their plans to experts based on visual material.

DocPoint domestic submissions are open for Finnish films that were finalised after 9.10.2020. Only films that have not been shown in Finland before are welcome to register. There is no premiere requirement in the student series. Submissions open August 10, 2021 and end October 10, 2021. Films in rough cut-stage may be considered as well, after specific agreement with the Artistic Director of the festival.

The international section of the festival’s program is curated and is by invitation only.

In addition to the market, DocPoint will increase its program for documentary film professionals at the 2022 festival.
