DocPicks: LGBTQ+ stories

Daily DocPicks serves hot tips for 20-year-old DocPoint’s versatile programme. LGBTQ+ is a thematic close to DocPoint’s heart.

The theme of Saturday at the festival is LGBTQ+. The films turn their gaze to the sexual minorities by depicting their everyday life challenges in Hungary and Mexico.

HER MOTHERS intimately addresses the topic by reflecting a gay couple’s journey to motherhood in nationally conservative Hungary. The documentary directed by Asia Dér and Sári Haragonics follows the slow-moving adoption process and the ever-darkening political situation.

Sitting on the borderlands of documentary and fiction, THINGS WE DARE NOT DO tells the story of a gay teenager in a small Mexican village overshadowed by violence and homophobia. Directed by Bruno Santamaría, the work is one of the international film festival favorites of the year 2020.

On Saturday we also discover the winners of the International and National Competition series, as well as the audience’s chosen winners! Streaming of the DocPoint Award Gala at Bio Rex starts at 5 pm.
