DocPoint Festival will host celebrated filmmakers

DocPoint – Helsinki Documentary Film Festival will host 45 international guests. 31 of the invited guests are filmmakers that include both debut directors and experienced masters.

One of the most celebrated debuts last year was Communion. It’s director Anna Zamecka will be one of festival’s guests. Communion was awarded at the film festivals in Münich, Trieste, Warsaw, Locarno and Leipzig – among others. European Film Academy chose it as the best documentary of 2017. Communion is the moving story of 12-year-old Ola who tries to keep her family together. Zamecka worked as a journalist and an anthropologist before filmmaking.

From Poland comes also Marta Prus. Her film Over the Limit depicts the cruel world of rhythmic gymnastics and Prus’ film has been applauded for it’s sense of rhythm. The directors is a former gymnast herself.

The restrospective guest is Danish filmmaker Phie Ambo. The intimate and the universal come together beautifully in her work. DocPoint Festival will screen five of her features and one of her short films.
